This robust insulator spacer, frequently referred to as a bakelite spacer block, is mounted directly between the intake manifold and the base of the carburetor. Its primary and vital function is to block the intense radiant heat from the engine block and exhaust from soaking into the main carburetor body. Without proper thermal insulation, the fuel inside the float bowl will rapidly boil after a hot engine is shut off—a notorious condition known as vapor lock. Vapor lock invariably results in severe hot-start issues, erratic idling, and sudden, unpredictable engine stalling.
This specific variant is extra thick, measuring a full 17 mm, providing maximum thermal protection. It is highly recommended for performance-tuned engines, heavy-duty applications, or any classic vehicle prone to high under-hood temperatures (especially common in tight engine bays or when running tubular exhaust headers).

Workshop tip: Please remember to order standard paper base gaskets separately, as they are not included. You must always install a thin paper base gasket on each side of the hard plastic insulator block to ensure a 100 percent vacuum-tight seal against both the intake manifold and the carburetor base.
