This is a premium-quality accelerator pump diaphragm explicitly manufactured to fit Weber's highly popular twin-barrel downdraft carburetors within the DG series. The crucial role of the accelerator pump is to inject a precise, extra volume of raw fuel directly into the carburetor throat the exact moment you depress the throttle pedal. This action prevents the engine from hesitating, stalling, or stumbling during sudden acceleration.
Over time, and especially due to exposure to modern ethanol-blended fuels (such as E10), the rubber material in the diaphragm dries out. It inevitably becomes brittle, completely loses its natural flexibility, and eventually tears. This deterioration leads to a highly erratic throttle response, flat spots on acceleration, and dangerous external fuel leaks. By replacing your old diaphragm with this part, you will effectively restore crisp throttle response and the overall reliability of your carburetor.
Compatibility (Carburetors):
- Weber 32/36 DGV (Manual choke)
- Weber 32/36 DGAV (Water/Aqua choke)
- Weber 32/36 DGEV (Electric choke)
- Weber 38 DGAS (Water/Aqua choke)
- Weber 38 DGES (Electric choke)
Common applications and car models:
These specific carburetors are frequently found as original factory equipment or are extremely common as aftermarket conversion upgrades on numerous classic vehicles:
- Ford: Cortina, Taunus, Sierra, Granada, Capri, Escort (Pinto OHC 1.6, 2.0, and Essex V6 3.0 engines)
- Volvo: Amazon, 140, 240 (Commonly used on B18, B20, B21, and B23 engine conversions)
- Opel: Ascona, Manta, Rekord, Kadett (1.9 and 2.0 CIH engines)
- BMW: 1602, 2002 (M10 engines with downdraft conversions)
Workshop tip: When replacing the accelerator pump diaphragm, always take a moment to verify that the diaphragm return spring is intact and retains its proper tension. Additionally, carefully inspect and blow out the accelerator pump jet with compressed air to ensure the fuel stream is strong, direct, and completely unbroken.
