This robust and thick base gasket, manufactured from heat-resistant bakelite, is mounted between the carburetor's base flange and the engine's intake manifold. It is specifically designed to act as a thermal insulator, effectively preventing radiant and contact heat from the engine from transferring into the carburetor body. This significantly reduces the risk of vapor lock and fuel boiling in the float bowl, common issues that can otherwise disrupt engine drivability and throttle response in warm weather or heavy stop-and-go traffic.
